Book Overview
How America Bike and Grow Rich Tour
The Big Picture During the 2010 May Bike Month, the 40 foot BioDiesel bus we recently acquired will take the thought provoking Busycle to cities throughout the SF Bay Area to help them celebrate the bicycle way of life. During this pre- TransCon tour, “Awake Again” Author and National Bicycle Greenway director, Martin Krieg, will begin signing Print on Demand copies of his new on line book, “How America Can Bike and Grow Rich, The National Bicycle Greenway Manifesto” (HBGR). Excerpts from HBGR, including the city histories and Biking Report Cards the NBG has drawn up for each Mayors' Ride city can be found now at the NBG Biking Cities page. Once you get there, you will discover that many of the Virtual Tours you see there link to our all new
A Closer Look: Besides the tour’s press kit (including 5x7 glossies of the team with the buses), our news fabricator will also have audio and visual material he or she will be disseminating. There will be the podcast interviews Krieg will have conducted with Mayors, city officials and those interesting locals he will have exchanged with along the way. These will embellished for the internet by the NBG home office. Krieg will be augmenting the blog that he will update nightly with a treasure trove of images. These will also be used by our publicist for promotional material in news releases and the like. Besides his exchanges with city officials, Martin will also be raising the volume of our message with the short podcast interviews that he will be doing with them and also the interesting locals of the lands through which he moves. Because we look forward to having a satellite dish on the tow vehicle, there will be daily updates to the online photo gallery/slide show so that news about the tour occurs in near real time. The many local SF Bay Area and national newspapers that carry some of this electricity will cross pollinate with all the excitement our Twitter and Facebook feeds will also be generating. All of the ingredients are in place to insure that this will be a well oiled machine. NBG Director, Martin Krieg, knows what it's like out there. By recently riding a thousand miles from San Francisco to Salt Lake City, he learned a lot about why he genuinely needs what he needs. He also knows what his body, bicycle and technology can and cannot do. Here in 2009, he delivered on his promise to meet Mayors, create real time photo galleries and conduct podcast interviews with interesting people. All this as he also became the first man to pedal a HiWheel over the Sierras, in and out of Lake Tahoe, across the most mountainous state in the Union, Nevada, and as a self contained unit across the Salt Lake basin, all on a backwards facing HiWheel, the Eagle. In addition, Krieg has already pedaled across the nation twice. The 1986 ride he did for the National Head Head Injury Foundation reached 40 million people for the cause of head Injury in and amongst his public speaking and TV and radio appearances. For seven years, until 1994, his company Cycle America, published many tens of thousands of bicycle guides of which the theme was the National Bicycle Greenway (NBG) and long distance bike touring. The nonprofit organization that became official in 1989, the National Bicycle Greenway, has, since that time, launched and celebrated, many with festivals, seven coast to coast bike cros..sings. The NBG has also produced six successful coast to coast Mayors' Ride campaigns and not only has Krieg written the book “How to Bike America”, but he has also personally inspired, coached and consulted on over a dozen other successful transcontinental bikes rides.
