We had a happy reception at the Oasis Cafe here in Salt Lake City for three cyclists biking the heat as a part of the National Bicycle Greenway National Mayors' Ride. I particularly enjoyed meeting Jim Muellner whose travels I have been reading about since last May and Chris Butson and Bryon Wright, bikers from our city, who answered our call for riders to join Jim for his ride in from Steamboat Springs, CO.

A reporter and photographer from the Desert News showed up to cover the event as our Mayor Ross Anderson read the National Bicycle Greenway Day proclamation and talked with the riders about their journey as well as what is being done here in Salt Lake City to make it easier to ride a bike. Despite the fact that we as city government employees are pulled in a million different directions, both the Mayor and myself were glad we were able to make time for this worthy event and the genuine people that are a part of it!

In Salt Lake City, we met at the Oasis Restaurant where we received a free lunch for our efforts. Rocky, the Mayor read the proclamation. He was pleased with this eating establishment as it was the first business in SLC to comply with the special environmentally friendly program that he is promoting. This being an election year I thanked him for honoring us with his presence as I also told him a little bit about the NBG. We had earlier done a little demo ride for the newspaper photographer and then had lunch with Bryon and his wife, Amy, and step daughter Pascal and Chris and his girl friend Diane, who also did a nice reporting job on the event.rl friend Diane, who also did a nice reporting job on the event.

Love to all, Jim Muellner

The interview and pictures were at the Oasis Cafe, a lovely restaurant in downtown Salt Lake. Mayor Rocky Anderson read a proclamation declaring it National Bike Greenway Day, and after a brief ceremony and some conversation we sat down for a great lunch. It was an appropriate end to a great ride for Bryon and I. We wish Jim luck on the rest of his journey, to resume after a few days of well-deserved rest!
