Born in August of 1964 in Rotenburg, Germany, Sylvie D. Maxwell was raised by prominent artists. Her father, a well known artist and poet also owned a popular gallery while her mother was a respected photographer.

The small village in which they lived was surrounded by farmland, forests, and idyllic heather plants. Seeing the beauty of her home country through the eyes of her parents, inspired Sylvie at an early age. She won her first art contest at the age of seven and along with her straight A's in art and music, she had drawn her first portrait by the time she was twelve.
