Los Altos RIDES from the Bicycle Outfitter

This is an updated group of rides that appeared in the 1991 Cycle America Regional Directory for California's Central Coast

INTERMEDIATE RIDE (Stevens Creek Reservoir Loop-20 mi):
Follow Foothill Expressway until it becomes Stevens Canyon Road a mile after you go under 280. Do the gradual climb up to the Stevens Creek Reservoir and continue around the lake through Stevens Creek County Park. Turn left on Mt. Eden and climb steeply until you turn right on Pierce Road. From there, do the last 1 mile push past the Paul Masson Winery and begin the descent to Highway 9. A left on 9 takes you about 2 miles into Saratoga, where you can tank up. At the first light, turn left on Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road (Highway 85) back towards Foothill Expressway. Traffic will be moderately heavy as you head back to Los Altos but there is a good shoulder.

HAMMER RIDE:
There are zillions of hammer opportunities available from the Outfitter; ask any of the staff! An example would be to follow Foothill to Stevens Creek, and continue around the reservoir to Montebello Road which precedes Mt. Eden. Turn right on Montebello and climb, climb, climb up Montebello until it dead ends at the top, then enjoy a fast downhill returning the way you climbed. Turn right on Stevens Canyon Road and continue Intermediate Ride into Saratoga, or return back to Foothill Expressway.

FAMILY RIDE:
Every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, rides on alternate Sundays for hilly or flat routes leave from the shop. You can just show up or call to determine which ride is being offered. This is a great chance to meet other bicycle enthusiasts and to explore the foothills and rural urban areas that surround our shop. Our rides are led by able bodied bicyclists from the Outfitter.
