Not far away, the farmer above, called to me from the doorway of his workshop to amaze me with stories about the lands through which I was passing.<\/div>\n

He told me about the barn above, on the opposite side of the road, that used to be a home that 13 people lived in, three of whom died of TB in 1940, in large part due to the horrible, cramped living conditions found all over Ireland back then. The roof that covers it was put on in 1888 and is a special slate that came from Bangor, Maine……<\/span><\/p>\n

The gate, off in the distance above, signals its end. In Ireland, especially away from the small towns, few of the roads are marked, much less signed with the ‘Not a Through Road’……<\/span><\/p>\n
