He will have with him two proclamations in support of the coast to coast <\/span><\/span>Main Street USA – the National Bicycle Greenway<\/span><\/span><\/span> One from Oakland\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span>Mayor Libby Schaaf<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>, and one from the Mayor of Napa <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Jill Simmons Techel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> As a part of our 15th annual National Mayors’ Ride, he will arrive to a reception from Car Free Davis Bike Mayor <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Robb Davis<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>,<\/strong> at our second annual <\/span><\/span>Second Davis NBG Fest<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

(C) The 2017 Davis NBG proclamation that Mayor Robb Davis<\/strong> recently signed is now on our Second Davis NBG Fest <\/strong><\/a>web page . Not just any proclamation, it helps people see how Davis has long fit into the national transportation scene as well as why it is so deservedly the Bike Capital of America.<\/span><\/p>\n

It even caused college professor and long time Wheelman, Randy Mitchell<\/strong>, to remark\u00a0on Facebook, that it contained things about which he was unaware<\/span><\/p>\n

(D) \u00a0This is \u00a0the 2017 Oakland Proclamtion from <\/span><\/span>Mayor Libby Schaaf<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>! Soon it will be headed to our May 27 <\/span><\/span>Second Davis NBG Fest<\/span><\/span><\/span> with Tom Ayres<\/strong> before <\/span><\/span>Robb Davis<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> joins us on June 4 with the Davis proclamation at above\u00a0on our ride to the State Capitol. They will bring these important documents to Sacramento and a pending reception from <\/span><\/span>Governor Jerry Brown<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> who has, himself, gotten into bicycling !<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

And, being Car Free since 1989, I’ve been aware of what is being said about this way of doing one’s life for a very long time.<\/span><\/p>\n

(G1) \u00a0In his work designing exhibits for science fairs and public expositions all over America, Eric Warp\u2019s<\/strong> crew put his brilliant designs on fam core matting, About a month ago, I asked him if maybe he could put this image on a 6-foot long, 30-inch tall piece of foam core so we can place it in our Festival booth and run it in front of our table when we table at other events.\u00a0Well on our Saturday ride to Winters, he told me he found a small sliver of time in the early part of this week in which \u00a0he can create something for us!! <\/span><\/p>\n

(I) Yousef Ali<\/strong>, a recent UCD graduate and the volunteer director of\u00a0\u00a0last year’s UC Davis Whole Life Expo wants to help with the 2017 Davis NBG Fest! \u00a0WoW!! \u00a0He tells me he can even probably \u00a0mobilize\u00a0\u00a0volunteers as well as help getting it promoted. He and I are going to meet \u00a0this week and so we can discuss specifics.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

What’s wild is that he recently started working\u00a0\u00a0at Grocery Outlet<\/strong>, one of our main festival \u00a0sponsors, and grew up with with a few of the employees there that \u00a0have become my buddies. One such pal is Scott Gidding, whoI talk about next<\/span><\/div>\n

(J) Scott Gidding<\/strong>, a lifelong Davis resident, and Grocery Outlet employee, is talking to his Fire University colleagues about an act for our event, One possibility is a fir spinner associate who can ride a unicycle as he juggles fire. If Scott feels confident that they can create a show worthy of our attention, he will let me know. Nor are he and his fire handlers new to this possibility. The Fire University has been around since 2006 and eve has its own WIKI<\/strong><\/a>!!<\/span><\/div>\n

\"Screen(K) Barry Burr,<\/strong> a bike lighting genius and long time fried of mine, will be exhibiting his Oculus \u00a0bike lights<\/strong><\/a> at our Festival! Barry’s lights cast such a monstrous beam pattern that it looks like a car is creating the \u00a0illumination that they produce. Toward that end,\u00a0<\/span>NASA has even invited him to create lighting for some of their space mission\u00a0work because Barry’a\u00a0optics gives 60% better object recognition than the next best lighting NASA tested.<\/span><\/div>\n

(L) Love Laundry<\/strong><\/a> here in Davis came on as \u00a0sponsor of our Festival!! \u00a0As the new laundromat in town and only one of two, theirs a state of the art operation that opened its doors last January. And already, their operation is a busy one. It’s easy to see why.<\/span><\/div>\n

(M) A<\/b><\/span>fter 14 years of Mayors\u2019 Rides, we have fleshed out the route (HERE<\/b><\/span><\/a>) from San Francisco to Washington, DC that went live in 2014 and are looking for a cyclist(s) to ride it. We are looking for someone who can pay their own expenses and do the ride during the months of June and July, leaving our 2nd Davis NBG Fest<\/strong> <\/a>on May 27, so we can work with you as well as \u00a0publicize your journey. Since we will also be busy seeding the route with those businesses\u00a0that service cyclists in our 20\u00a0NBG Biking Cities<\/b><\/span><\/a>\u00a0it is probable that you will find yourself in receipt of complimentary food, lodging and bicycle goods, etc\u00a0!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
