T<\/span><\/strong>his is Union Station in Indianapolis, now known as Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station. <\/span>It was this station that transferred East Coast rail passengers headed West to the transcontinental railroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a data point in my book, “How Indianapolis Built America and How it will Rebuild it with the National Bicycle Greenway”<\/a><\/strong>, this was the first Union Station in the world! <\/span>Before it came about, all the many different rail lines all used to have their own stations.<\/span><\/p>\n
