They will be using the same alignment that dates back to 1829 when the National Road reached Indiana from Washington DC. The importance of this bridge that was dismantled in 1902 can be underscored by the fact that there are reports of 90 wagons an hour using this water crossing from sun up to sun down. The NBG group will also be calling attention to Martin Krieg\u2019s book \u201cHow Indianapolis Built America\u201d. Unpaved, the National Road was signed into law by Thomas Jefferson in 1806 and had the purpose of connecting the Nation\u2019s Capital with the Mississippi River.
