The man, Jimmy Devaney, you see here, is holding the strut that \u00a0separated from the bike when the bolt that held it \u00a0to the steer tube broke. Ugh, just when I was starting to think I had bullet-proofed my bike well enough for the constant pounding of these Irish back roads, I experience this setback. About a mile before Jimmy saw me walking by his house, I had jumped off the bike to inspect the subtle metal creaking noises I had been hearing. Combined with slightly odd handling, the bike made me think \u00a0I had a broken spoke.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t see anything when upon mounting, the bike went one way and I went the other. A three mile walk in bike shoes resulted. Well, at least this does look like a pretty straight forward fix…<\/p>\n
