\u201cYeah we like to party,\u201d interjected one of the older kids from the\u00a0group who had been listening. He must have been 16.<\/p>\n

The 21-story Oakland Tribune tower that once used to dominate\u00a0the skyline appeared. A green colored campanile sits at its top.\u00a0On all four sides, giant clock faces tell the tale of time. All of this is\u00a0crowned by a vertical flagpole. In 1923, Harry Houdini astounded\u00a0the world when, dangling from it, he escaped from a straight\u00a0jacket.<\/p>\n

I kept talking, \u201cOK so for bike central, what we want to do is have\u00a0a building complex that has an auditorium at its center. You know,\u00a0a giant room that can hold say four hundred people that would\u00a0serve as a community room where we could have dances for you\u00a0guys and then to pay for such a big hall, rent it out so community\u00a0groups could have classes for everything from swing dance to tai\u00a0chi and yoga and stuff. It would be big enough that we could have\u00a0trade shows for the local business community and mixers and we\u00a0could even hold conferences there, even bike swap meets or\u00a0indoor flea markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

I was on a roll.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then to get the local bike organizations involved, we\u2019d have\u00a0cheap office space there for them and to make it even more bike\u00a0central, when the community at large comes in to use the hall,\u00a0they\u2019d see all these bike activism names on the doors that open\u00a0into the community area.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCool!\u201d one of the kids exclaimed. I had to keep my eyes on the\u00a0road as I spoke so I didn\u2019t look back to see who it was.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd when we get enough financial backing we\u2019ll …….<\/p>\n
