The reasons are complicated, but most people agree that it has to do with the fact that train tracks are constantly reminding passers-by of their existence, location and function.

Protected bike lanes on major streets are the train tracks of the bicycle world.

Because protected bike lanes make high-traffic corridors comfortable for people of all ages and abilities to bike on, they make bikes and bike lanes visible to car drivers in a way they rarely are. They serve as a constant reminder of the fact that in some situations, bike transportation makes obvious sense. Situations like, you know, rush hour.

Rest of Story

          In the public transportation world, there’s a familiar rule that train tracks are better than… read more

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

78,73

post-8146","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-nbggrabbag","category-uncategorized-2
https://www.bikeroute.com/NationalBicycleGreenwayNews/2012/10/23/greenwaysbike-lanes-heralded-john-forrester-vehicular-cycling-debunked/
The American Journal of Public Health published a Canadian study which proves that building bike infrastructure such as bike lanes, protected bike lanes, even bike paths, not only makes for significantly safer cycling but that such improvements are the preferred travel option of regular, two wheeled users of the road.This…
https://i0.wp.com/1.bp.blogspot.com/-fN3MlzkohLs/UIbDA3u2TEI/AAAAAAAAAjY/KjVtLe6BIqY/s320/largest.jpg?resize=350%2C200
https://www.bikeroute.com/NationalBicycleGreenwayNews/2014/01/03/how-new-yorks-outgoing-chief-of-transportation-made-the-city-richer-and-healthier/
In her six-year tenure, Sadik-Khan has made a lot of changes. She focused on reducing the number of cars on NYC streets.
