On Saturday May 16, an important ride will leave the National Bicycle Greenway (NBG) cornerstone city of Palo Alto<\/strong><\/a>. On it, the NBG will cross the Dumbarton Bridge, the first to span San Francisco Bay in 1928, and show Bike East Bay<\/strong><\/a> cyclists what it feels are the best roads and paths needed to get them up to Oakland. The journey to Oakland is the second pedaling leg of the bike route from San Francisco to Washington DC.<\/span><\/p>\n

As such, then, Oakland is one of the 19 NBG Biking Cities<\/strong><\/a> that connect the West to the Nation’s Capitol. Oakland is followed by Sacramento, Reno, Salt Lake City, Boulder\/Denver, Omaha, Des Moines, Chicago, Indianapolis – the center of the greenway universe, Cincinnati, Columbus and Pittsburgh.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Palo Alto group which will include the most photographed cyclist on the planet, Peter Wagner<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 will be led by NBG Director, Martin Krieg, on the same 1891 Eagle HiWheel, he used on these roads in 2009 when he rode from San Francisco to Salt Lake City <link<\/a><\/strong>>. They can be met at Bronco Billy\u2019s Pizza Palace, 3940 Smith Street at 10:30 AM in Union City and at the Hilton Oakland Airport at Hegenberger and Doolittle at 12:30.<\/span><\/p>\n

After their reception at Oakland \u00a0City Hall, the cyclists will adjourn to the Whole Foods Oakland store. There they can look forward to the energy food and drink they will enjoy in the beautiful outdoor seating found at this upper Lake Merritt store not far from the governance center.<\/span><\/p>\n
