Participating in our 17th annual National Bicycle Greenway Mayors’ Ride, the 2020 edition will find our NBG road warriors pedaling to the ____ hotel from their Mayoral send offs in Chicago and Cincinnati. While Chicago will have received riders from San Francisco and the 11 NBG Anchor cities between, Cincinnati will have collected its riders from a Washington DC send off that will have passed through Pittsburgh and Columbus.
The following morning after a 10 AM brunch at ________ , we will head to one of the most famous Monuments in the world, visible from 60 miles away, the nearby 288-foot tall, Soldiers and Sailors Monument. After Mayor Hogsett reads the National Bicycle Greenway Proclamation into the record there, he will take the Indianapolis community on a bicycle police escorted ride down the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. Hogsett’s group will be received five blocks away, on the banks of the White River, at McCormick’s Rock by the ___ High School Jazz Band,. Adjacent to the iconic NCAA headquarters and its Hall of Fame, this is where John McCormick built his
cabin to become the city’s first settler as corroborated by a presentation from one of his descendants.
In addition, speakers including Ray Irvin, aka Mr Greenway, who played a key role in much of the redevelopment of both banks of the 8-square mile riverfront facelift, Indiana Historical Society researcher, Jordan Blair, and “How Indianapolis Built America” author, NBG Director, Martin Krieg will all briefly address certain facets of the riverfront’s significance to the history of this population center. They, and one or two yet to be named speakers, will show how the stunning transformation that has occurred out there has reinvented an exciting downtown Indianapolis that was once one of the richest, cutting edge business districts in all the world.
