Lightning Cycle Makes Davis NBG Fest Real!

Lightning Cycle Dynamics has given authority  to our first Davis NBG Fest by donating their Lightning Phantom recumbent 2014-large-2bike to the raffle we are holding to make our relaunch of the National Bicycle Greenway in Davis, the Bike Capital of America, possible. The first of what we know will be many exciting prizes,  the Phantom is the baby brother of the world’s fastest bike, the Lightning F-40.

And what could be a more fitting way to help us receive Amy Oleynik and her dad who will have ridden our  route on 19th century HiWheel bikes? In following the 1884  route of the legendary, Thomas Stevens, as closely as they can, they  will be using our route at BikeRoute.com  all the way to Chicago.  Already, Amy has begun blogging the build up at BikeRoute.com/amy

IMG_3392Besides welcoming Amy back to Davis, where she works at the university, our festival, set for Oct 22,  will use live music and other activities to bring people to the prize give aways (top dollar  recumbent bicycles, weekend getaways, restaurant meals, etc) that will result from the on line raffle and silent auction that will have run all summer long.

In the Davis Commons. at what is the Gateway to Davis, CA, nestled in between massive old growth shade trees and a handsome wall of business storefronts, including participating  NBG sponsors, Whole Foods and Hot Italian Pizza Bar, in this its first year this free event will serve as a mechanism to underwrite Martin Krieg’s  return from Ireland. There for almost five years he was a stay at home dad to his son Cayo, who he wants to bring here to America if this effort hits its goals.

It is here that the bulk of this funding will be used for IRS nonprofit and legal  filings, for Krieg’s salary and relocation expenses,  and for the grant writer who we are hoping will procure the finances needed to monetize the National Bicycle Greenway so that it is a profitable and sustainable public benefit operation. Grant funds will keep the NBG flagship Mayors’ Ride program  before the public with mayoral proclamations that align our Anchor  cities  with our effort. This as staff will  be created  to also sell sponsor positions on associated web pages.

Grant funds procured will also be used to create staffing that will sell map placements to businesses on the route that connects our 20  SF-DC  NBG Anchor Cities. This as it makes these population centers attractive to cyclists and our Greenway welcome and familiar to bike riders all over the world  well before they use it

Signing out route with also the help of sponsored sections will be the goal of our next fund raising drive. It is there that we foresee a crowd funded campaign such as what is made possible by Kickstarter or Indiegogo. But for now we must build a strong foundation.
